PIONEER’S MOOT COURT HUB INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN LAW MOOT-PROBLEM 2026

Political Crisis & Discriminatory Policy

The Independent Republic of Miken is a state with four main ethnic groups, with the Bhanchugu tribe historically holding power. Following the assassination of inclusive President Raven Dove in 2006, Vice-President Anuwar Rahin seized power. He implemented the "Freedom Fighters (Permanent Protection) Policy," systematically excluding the Bhang'ondi tribe (50% of the population) from political, social, and economic life.

In 2010, Bhang'ondi citizens began peaceful protests demanding an end to these discriminatory policies. The government responded with extreme police violence, leading to civilian deaths and the suppression of media.

Armed Conflict & Humanitarian Violations

In response, the Bhang'ondi Liberation Front Party (BLFP) formed, eventually militarizing into the Bhang'ondi Liberation and Rebellion Army (BLRA) under General Busisa Matrich. The BLRA seized control of resource-rich Itiribe County, specifically the strategic Mogesa Gold Mine. They also established a logistics center near the border with the United Republic of Flinton.

Tensions escalated when President Anuwar declared a "War on Terror," mobilizing the MPDF. A government offensive on the BLRA training camp resulted in significant civilian casualties. International allegations suggest Flinton is financing and arming the BLRA, adding a complex international dimension to the internal conflict.
